VO2 Fitness

Having now been part of the team at VO2 Maximum for year, I have seen the lbs shred off of me. Since starting in March 2017 by attending weekly Monday night Circuit Training sessions with owner and coach Jimmy George, I have lost 18.4lb. This may not sound a lot, but when you look at before and after pictures, this is a massive difference to where I was in September 2016 when I first started cycling.

Being part of the team at VO2 has been like a second family. The support you get from everyone whilst attending swimming, circuit training and chain gang evenings is really encouraging. Spurring each other on as you cycle past one another as we cycle up and down Ide Hill, Hubbards Hill and Station Road in Penshurst, the 'well done' shouts are enough to get you to pedal a little harder, bringing with it comes the added bonus of seeing your Strava speeds go up and your times go down.

This year alone, I was fortunate enough to purchase a new bike through VO2 Cycling and the added bonus of a lighter frame on myself and the bike has been enough to see some of the Kentish hills such as the Ide Hill climb go down from 7:37 in April to 5:35 a time saving of 2:02 (This is an increase of 36% in speed.) When looking at my Strava statistics, I can't quite believe how fast I am getting.

Recently the new team members training for triathlons and Ironmans have seen the podium in age group categories and qualifications for events such as the ITU World Championships next year on the Gold Coast. What a fantastic club to be a part of.

Personal goals for the rest of the year.
Ideally, I'd like to lose a bit more weight, target is 11 stone, I know the last bit is always the hardest to keep off, so working with Ben and Kirsty Sulston at Sulstons Kitchen in Tonbridge, with my nutrition and dietary requirements, has been very beneficial to reaching my weight loss goal.

I haven't yet signed up to any competitive race events yet, but there are a few I have my eyes on next year. I have already signed up for the Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo Sportive to see if there is a chance of getting in to the championship squad for age group in the September.
My next sportive though is on 23rd June where I will be taking on the 205 mile cross country Chase the Sun event with some guys from my church.
Starting from Isle of Sheppey at 4:35am, you have to reach Burnham-on-Sea by 9:30pm on the same day.
After that, there is VeloSouth another 100 mile sportive in September, part of CSM Active's new sportives that brought us VeloBirmingham last September. I am looking forward to cycling at the Goodwood circuit and around more new roads of the South coast.

I just hope I continue to be as strong as I have started the year.
More Strava segments are coming my way and I am still really enjoying cycling.
